Skill development for water governance leaders in Ethiopia
Accelerated has been supporting the Stockholm International Water Institute's (SIWI) government capacity building and skills strengthening efforts in Ethiopia as part of the Ethiopia Water and Landscape Governance Programme. For this project, we have undertaken rigorous user research to understand audience needs and technology context across 6 government agencies in Ethiopia. We have developed a series of mobile-first video, audio based training modules using our micro-learning approach. The aim is to provide high-quality, bandwidth friendly content that will work effectively in a low internet or intermittent connectivity context. |
Scaling twenty startups in Ethiopia
The International Trade Center (UN-ITC) launched the “Fast Tracking Digital Entrepreneurship in Africa” project (#FastTrackTech) in March 2020 to support digital entrepreneurs and tech startups in sub-Saharan Africa with online and onsite training, advisory and coaching focused on building digital and business skills as well as domestic, regional & international business generation and investment promotion. The project will also engage with the business support organisations, in particular tech hubs, and government to foster local tech ecosystems. The #FastTrackTech in Africa project aims to benefit over the next two years seven countries with 30 startups per country, segmented according to their level of maturity (growth, entrepreneurship, ideation) and focus area (fintech, agritech, e-health...) as well as 2,000 digital entrepreneurs. All startups will be supported in their growth and internationalisation. As FTT's learning partner in Ethiopia, Accelerated has developed and launched a detailed training and mentoring program for over 20 startups in Ethiopia. Applying proven instructional design principles and also cutting-edge microlearning concepts, we have developed a series of training modules to help over 20 early-stage entrepreneurs and growth stage businesses to build and scale their companies. To engage our target audience-group, we have taken inspiration from Instagram Stories and TikTok video formats to deliver high-quality content that is not only informative and practical, but also entertaining and engaging. These content modules are supported by interactive online workshops where participants discuss, debate and apply these principles to their day-to-day business operations. Additional materials like worksheets, assignments, progress trackers, and business diagnostic tools have also been developed. |
Parentsy - Mobile based coaching program for at-home schooling
Parentsy is an award winning mobile learning product that aims to provide support to parents who struggling to home-school their children because of COVID-19 shutdowns. Blending behavior sciences, learning data and evidence-based strategies, we have developed a unique coaching and learning model that delivers results at scale. IDEO selected Parentsy as one of the best global learning solutions to tackle the learning challenges caused by COVID-19 related school closings and lockdowns. We started Parentsy as an initiative to help parents deal with the covid crisis and with homeschooling. To do this, we have followed a rigorous, lean methodology to new product development. After preliminary research, we launched a MVP (minimum viable product) or a proof of concept as a Telegram channel a few months ago. We have seen tremendous traction and hit our two week target of hundred parents in less than 24 hours. Using this rapid innovation approach, we have conducted a lot of user research and have studied what parents like and what topics they prefer and in what formats. We have noticed very high engagement with over 1,200 views each day on the channel content. Now that we have established a clear market need, collected adequate data to address this need, the next step for our team is to build out the first prototype of our product in a stand-alone app format. |
